Brahms: Symphony No. 1
Weber: Der Freischutz Overture Hummel: Trumpet Concerto
Salem Orchestra is proud to present a brief tour of the 19th century - a century of incredible composers building from their brilliant predecessors. In the direct footsteps of Joseph Haydn, Johann Hummel writes a trumpet concerto for the ages featuring Salem’s own Brett Randolph. Then, what better way to conclude the first season than to share Symphony No. 1 by Johannes Brahms. It is not easy to be the apparent heir to the great Ludwig van Beethoven, but after twenty-one years painstakingly sketching, writing, and perfecting his first symphony, Brahms created a masterpiece - even writing an homage to the chorus of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
